Eliana Ramos, sister of Luisel Ramos, has also died of anorexia
Uruguanian supermodel Luisel Ramos, died last year of complications from anorexia. Her sister, also a model, has just been reported dead due to malnutrition.
Only 18 years old, Eliana was found dead in the home she shared with her grandmother earlier this week. “The primary diagnosis is death due to symptoms of malnutrition."
Her grandmother found her body for the second time in less than a year.
"This has happened to me twice,” she cried, “The girl would not wake up. I went into the house and saw her eyes blank and her knees tucked up."
Eliana was discovered when she was 16 years old by modelling scouts and her career took off from there. But lately she had been losing weight quite rapidly and, it seemed, following in her sister's deadly footsteps.
Pancho Dotto, the model's boss, has commented, "It is absurd that people are speaking about anorexia or bulimia in this tragic case. She had never had problems with her diet. It is obvious the sisters' deaths must be due to a genetic problem."
Pictures of Eliana have been circulating on the internet since her death and they show a terrifyingly skinny model with gaunt cheeks and more bones than fat.
Although we can’t speculate whether she was indeed anorexic, it’s pretty clear that she was unhealthy and had a major issue with not eating enough.
As another professional model dies, will the industry ever acknowledge the role it plays in these very young women’s short lives?
